On Monday, Dr. Matthew Helmus presented his tenure review talk to the Department of Biology at Temple University, title “Harnessing the Data Revolution”. Dr. Helmus reviewed his research from his time here at Temple, touching on his work on island biogeography theory to the invasive spotted lanternfly. Both study subject systems have required extensive data retrieval, cleaning, and manipulation. In the case of the spotted lanternfly, this data has consistently been translated for stakeholders into web apps. Dr. Helmus acknowledged that none of this work would be possible without the grants he has received, the collaborators he has worked with, and the students he has mentored.
