New Paper on the Long-Horned Tick in Pennsylvania

The iEcoLab recently published a new study on the non-native long-horned tick (Haemaphysalis longicornis) in Pennsylvania forests. Led by iEcoLab alumna Dr. Payton Phillips as well as PI Dr. Jocelyn Behm, the research explored whether this newly introduced tick could become a disease carrier in the U.S.

Payton collected ticks across southeastern Pennsylvania and tested them for pathogens. While none of the H. longicornis tested positive, the study found that they share habitats with local tick species and could eventually acquire and spread North American tick-borne diseases.
