Dr. Helmus presented the iEcoLab’s work on predicting the spread and impacts of the spotted lanternfly planthopper to the USDA at the Center for Plant Health Science and Technology in Raleigh, North Carolina. His talk was well attended and he discussed how to merge data science, field biology and mathematical modeling to make predictions on where the pest will spread to next. If you have not yet heard of the spotted lanternfly, then be sure to check out this information.
